Artmap Brushes NBT (Custom)
Website: modrinth.com/plugin/artmap-brushes
Overview
Artmap Brushes NBT is a custom plugin that automatically applies NBT tags to Artmap dye items when they're renamed to their official color names. This enables the custom resource pack to retexture those dyes into paint brushes, creating an immersive art experience.
How It Works
Automatic NBT Processing:
- Monitors dye items for name changes
- Checks if the item name matches official artmap color names
- Automatically applies custom_model_data NBT tags when names match
- Works seamlessly in the background without player interaction
Resource Pack Integration:
- The custom resource pack reads the NBT tags to apply brush textures
- Only properly named dyes get the brush appearance
- Maintains normal dye appearance for unnamed or incorrectly named items
- Creates visual distinction between regular items and art dyes
Getting Paint Brushes
Creating Your Brushes:
- Download resource pack - Required to see the brush textures - download on server join or here
- Get dye items - Any dye item will work, but the name must match the color the item draws. You cannot create a red brush with a yellow dye for example
- Rename to exact color names - Use an anvil to rename dyes
- Use official names - Color names must match exactly, but are not case sensitive (see resources below)
- NBT applied automatically - The plugin handles the technical work
Required Resources:
- Color Names List: dekatater.com/artmaps
- Resource Pack: dekatater.com/artmaps/packs.html
Technical Details
NBT Tag System:
- Applies custom_model_data values specific to each color
- Tags are persistent and survive item transfers
- Works with all minecraft dye types
- Compatible with artmap's color recognition system
Name Matching:
- Must use exact official artmap color names
- Case-sensitive matching for consistency
- Handles all 61 available artmap colors
- Ignores dyes with incorrect or missing names
Setup Requirements
For Players:
- Install the custom resource pack to see brush textures
- Use exact color names when renaming dyes
- No commands needed - everything works automatically
Visual Result:
- Properly named dyes appear as paint brushes
- Brushes retain their color-specific appearance
- Unnamed dyes keep normal vanilla textures
- Clear visual distinction between art supplies and regular items
Tips
- Keep the color names list bookmarked for reference
- Use copy/paste for exact name spelling when possible
- The resource pack is essential - brushes won't appear without it
- You can batch-rename multiple dyes of the same color
- Brushes work normally as dyes if you need them for other purposes
